Fear the Beard

For Fall Homecoming Week we celebrated with "Look-a-like" Day. We have 2 new teachers who sported these crazy-cool beards. They also just happened to wear plaid button-ups everyday. A quick trip to Goodwill for a shirt, a trip to the costume store for a beard, and I was ready to go! (Ironically they both trimmed up their beards the previous night without warning me!)

Halloween 2015

I totally want to show off my awesomely cool 2015 Halloween costume. I was a Pop Art Superhero, combining our elementary theme of Superheros with a bit of artsy fartsy. One of my amazing Senior boys dressed up as another throw-back. Such a fun day! It only took me about an hour to get ready, and I had a lot of teachable moments with those kiddos who didn't know about this fun art movement. My awesome co-workers posed for a group shot (below). We sure have a fun hall! Who else has co-workers that will join them in this fun!

Art Clothes

Ignore the obvious - that I'm getting ready for work - (pre-makeup). This is a dress I'd been wanting to create FOREVER! I finally bought a plain white dress online. I got out my acrylic paints & started painting. It was fun! I got the dress finished and boy was it stiff. I figured if I washed it that would soften it up. It did, but it also washed some of the paint away, which was strange, faded some paint horribly, and left some areas looking great. Since I was just using whatever craft paints I had I pulled them all back out & looked at them, figuring out which ones had been successful. Seems some acrylic paint is actually made for fabric. Who knew! I touched up my dress & wore it to school. The kids LOVED IT! (of course, what 's not to love!). Ironically, it was right after this that I discovered my new idol Cassie Stephenz, author of What the Art Teacher Wore. Love her! She could SO be my best friend! After discovering her blog I decided I needed to teach myself how to sew. So far I rock at curtains! LOL! Time to go make this blog cool looking, cause I am SO not inspired with this blank white page! Later...
